Property and facilities management is one of the most significant functions of West Midland RFCA. The Estates team is made up of eleven highly skilled members of staff who are responsible, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, for the upkeep of over 400 building across 148 sites. This impressive portfolio of properties provides the vital footprint and hub for all Reserve and Cadet activity in the region.
West Midland RFCA ensures the Estate is maintained to the required legal standard, best condition, fit for purpose and secure. Through their estate expertise, local knowledge and contractors the West Midland RFCA estates team aims to provide an attractive environment in which to recruit and train.
Future Defence Infrastructure Services (FDIS)
In August 2024, the Association and the Estates department helped manage a transition to a new way that property management and maintenance services are provided to the Volunteer Estate in more than 115 years.
The introduction of FDIS on 1 August 2024 saw the Estates department change from being primarily a delivery focused team, responsible for reactive maintenance, statutory and mandatory inspections, to an assurance, project management, delivery and client side role. With a key task to contract assurance the works being undertaken by the new prime contractor –VIVO.
VIVO previously, and still do, hold the Built Estate contract suppling Hard FM services to the Regular Estate across a footprint covering eight of the 13 RFCAs – the Central region. The new Volunteer Estate contract mirrors this geographic laydown.

The Reserve and Cadet Estate is available to hire for your event or business meeting through Alternative Venues West Midlands. Money generated from this goes back into supporting the Reserves and Cadets in our region.
