225 Squadron parading on Remembrance Day.Reservists at 225 Field Squadron, Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers, like many other military units across the UK, had a busy Remembrance Sunday. With their Reservists due to return from a training exercise and also take part in Oldbury’s Remembrance Sunday Parade on the same day, a cooked breakfast and a curry lunch at their Oldbury Army Reserve Centre was on the itinerary to keep the soldiers fed. However, new food hygiene legislation threatened to halt their catering plans due to insufficient kitchen capacity.

225 Squadron parading on Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph in Oldbury. To ensure compliance our Estates team quickly assessed the requirements and noted the additional equipment needed. New refrigeration equipment was sourced. They also reviewed surplus kitchen equipment from across the Reserve estate, to see if it could be sustainably re-purposed, luckily an additional hot cupboard in good working order was located and successfully installed at their centre. After a few touch and go moments (and a team effort to source further equipment by both our Estates team and 225 Squadron) they received the green light to go ahead from the caterers.

The parade itself saw the Oldbury-based Reservists play a central role in the Remembrance service marching through the town to the Cenotaph, with a junior member of their Squadron laying a wreath on their behalf. Being able to end the poignant day with a successful lunch was the heartening news our Estates team wanted to hear.

The lunch also offered the perfect opportunity for a special presentation to Lieutenant Corporal Ye who received the Volunteer Reserve Service Medal for 10 years of exemplary service!
