Cadet Sergeant Thomas McKenzie was fortunate to be selected to attend the course, and successfully complete the programme. Demonstrating an outstanding performance, Thomas was further recognised for his excellence by being awarded The Royal Signals Institute “For Excellence” Coin for Excellence.

The award included an engraved coin and a covering letter detailing Thomas’s achievement. Reflecting on his experience, Thomas shared his enthusiasm for the course, stating:

“The signaller course surprised me at how interesting it was – from learning about propagation pathways to setting up radio masts. It was a well-balanced experience with plenty of practical training, including our Operations Room exercise and making contact with someone in Scotland.

“It was a great course, and I feel truly inspired by it. Earning The Royal Signals Institute ‘For Excellence’ Coin is an honour I will always hold closely.”

At the age of 13 Thomas joined the Corps of Drums Detachment in 2021 and trains in both the Army Cadet and Music syllabuses. He is a 4-star musician, specialising as a drummer, and holds the position of County Drum Major. Additionally, he is a 3-star ACS cadet.

Having completed his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award in March 2024, he is now working towards his Silver. He is also enrolled in the CVQO award program. Committed to staying fit, Thomas actively participates in running, rugby, mountain biking, and gym workouts.

Thomas displayed great dedication throughout the training, embracing the challenges presented and excelling in their respective roles. His success is a testament to his hard work and commitment to developing his skills, setting a strong example for his fellow Cadets.

Congratulations, Thomas!
