Businesses from Shropshire and Staffordshire were given a special ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse into the roles and work of No. 1 School of Technical Training and No. 605 (County of Warwick) Royal Auxiliary Air Force based at RAF Cosford.
Hosted by No. 1 School of Technical Training and No. 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron, with support from Shropshire Council and our Association, the event showcased the range of engineering, technology and transferable skills on offer to personnel who train at the station.
It also demonstrated and reinforced why the support of businesses and organisations is vital to facilitate the development of Reservists and the wider Armed Forces community.
After a tour of the hangars to learn about the aircraft and history of the station, employers had the chance to get in literal touching distance of the aircraft – and in them!
We also had the pleasure of welcoming 11 new organisations to sign the Armed Forces Covenant, countersigned by Wing Commander Mitchell on behalf of Defence. Congratulations to Beaver Bridges, BeaverFit UK, Community Resource, Culina Group, Matrix Safety Training, McPhillips Wellington Limited, Tanners Wines, The Food Hub, Triangle HR, Carrier Group and Windowright Ltd for pledging their forces-friendly support.
Organisations also learnt more about the qualities Reservists and former service personnel can bring to the civilian workplace, and how employers can work with their local Cadet Forces, Armed Forces outreach programmes and CTP to further support the Armed Forces community.
Our thanks to No. 1 School of Technical Training and No. 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron for hosting a fantastic event.
No. 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force are the only RAF Reserve Squadron in our West Midlands area and surrounding region. As part of the Reserve Logistics Support Wing, they specialise in training their Reservists in logistics roles (including mechanical transport drivers, suppliers and chefs), and RAF Police personnel.
