The kitchens at the Tiddesley Wood and Bramcote Cadet Training Centres (CTC) have been revitalised with upgraded facilities.
Working together with Three Pines Ltd, Principal Designer/Architect David Richards, and Abraxas Catering Equipment, our Building Estates Manager for the South Region, Richard Cameron project managed the works to modernise and improve the facilities.
With our commitment to tackling climate change and reducing the amount of C02 gases the MOD creates, our refurbishment projects are planned with the aim of working towards the government’s Net Zero target. To improve the energy footprint and make each centre more environmentally-friendly, the work on the kitchens included:
- Replacing the traditional gas stoves with new energy efficient 10 Grid Rational iCombi electric combination ovens and steamers
- Installing energy efficient durable and robust white goods and kitchen equipment to maintain the correct food safety and hygiene levels
- Applying hygienic new PVCu Altro White-rock panel to the walls along with new vinyl flooring
- Gas and water pipework, electrical power outlets and air vents were configured to meet the latest compliance standards
- Full decorative refurbishment of the existing canteens, over-spill areas and adjacent classrooms to create fresh, modern areas
- New LED lighting installations to save on energy costs
- Upgrades to roller shutters, servery hatches and fire safety doors
To reduce waste, existing sinks and cupboards in good condition were cleaned and reinstalled once the main refurbishment works were completed.

Each Army Cadet Force county has a Weekend CTC in their area to give their Cadets and staff the opportunity to complete training and weekend camps in larger numbers. Tiddesley Wood CTC provides facilities for Hereford & Worcester Army Cadet Force to use, whilst Bramcote CTC is primarily used by Warwickshire & West Midlands (South Sector) Army Cadet Force. However the centres can be used by other counties and users as required.
Richard and the Estates team are responsible for the maintenance of 115 Cadet centres (including four CTCs) and 30 Reserve sites in our region. Refurbishment works like this project are essential to ensuring that the Cadets and volunteers are provided with modern, high class facilities in order to spend their weekends and school holidays getting the best out of the Cadet experience and developing valuable skills.
